A busy week for Ash Class

Ash Class (Year 2) has been a hive of activity over the last week.
We completed our Science topic of 'Animals including humans' and ended with experimenting how germs were spread. The children really loved seeing how germs (mixed herbs and hand lotion) were spread via contact. We then practised how to thoroughly wash our hands to maintain a good level of hygiene.
We have been learning about multiplying and dividing by 5 and 10 in Math and we have been using manipulatives to support our understanding of 'groups/lots of' numbers.
We started our new topic of Florence Nightingale in History by introducing the children to Florence via a link with the Florence Nightingale museum in London. They loved hearing about her life, what made her special, and they asked insightful questions to gain a deeper understanding. We have then explored timelines of events that we have studied, including the time of Florence Nightingale and we also sequenced her life on a time line too.
We also had some wonderful results back from our 'Big Plastic Count' project, where the children were asked to collect data about how much plastic waste we have in our homes over the course of a week. It was quite surprising just how much plastic we use, and hopefully have helped us to think about the importance of recycling to support our environment.
What a super week. Well done Ash class!
