Where do plants come from?

Ash Class in Year 2 were fantastic scientists last week!

We began our new topic on plants by recapping everything we could remember from Year 1. The children then enjoyed a plant hunt around the school grounds, where we spotted lots of wonderful examples of plants and trees growing beautifully in different environments.

Next, we explored the question, “Where do plants come from?” The children investigated a variety of fruits and vegetables to discover the seeds inside. We discussed how each seed looked different and thought carefully about why that might be.

In our following lesson, we designed a clever experiment to investigate what plants need in order to grow. The children decided to remove one important element from each plant to observe how this affected its growth over time. We are excited to continue monitoring our plants and watching how they develop over the coming weeks.

Fantastic learning, Ash Class — keep up the brilliant scientific thinking!
